
Douglas is an ardent supporter of Scottish cultural activities and is a member numerous Scottish cultural groups. He organizes the annual St. Andrew Supper and Concert for St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Creemore, Ontario, where he serves as an elder of the congregation. He has also served as the Chieftain of the Lovat Camp of the Sons of Scotland, President of the Clan Young Society, Convenor of the Canadian branch of this society, and Clan Historian. Douglas is also the Clan Society's representative to C.A.S.S.O.C. and a fellow of The Society of Scottish Antiquarians.
Naval Lieutenant Douglas A.L. Young, has served 12 years with the Canadian military, mainly as an infantry officer, and continues to serve today as a Naval Reserve Officer. This past year Lt. Young received a decoration for his services to Canada as a part of the Canadian Forces. He also teaches Law, and is the Assistant Head of his Department, at Barrie Central Collegiate.
Lt. Young is a graduate of Georgian College, Lakehead University and Sir Isaac Brock University. He and his wife Roxanne, have three children, Jocelyn, Lindsay and Mackenzie, and live at Garvock, in the country near New Lowell, Ontario.
The author's relations are proud descents of William Young, of Laurencekirk, Kincardineshire, who emigrated from Scotland to Upper Canada in 1842.
